(Later, Leyla) Strahd & Eva at the Tser Pool Encampament
“… they have the hilt of my brother’s sword!”
*Crash*
You hear the deep, angry voice like a peal of thunder. It is accompanied by a harsh splintering, and it becomes clear why: a Vistani vardo is overturned, practically flipped over, its colorful sides split open like a piece of overripe fruit, interior items spilling out like seeds.
An evening wind causes the large campfire at the Tser Pool encampment to dance, throwing shadows across the only two faces visible: the wizened, near-blind countenance of Madame Eva; and the pale, imposing - and angry - face of Strahd von Zarovich. The unearthly fire that blazes in his eyes is more than the reflection of any bonfire.
“What is it you foretold them, Eva?” he says, he voice now just barely restrained.
“Even I cannot remember the fortunes I have dealt.”
“Oh but with your great Sight, raunie? I had more faith in you," Strahd says with awful wry amusement. "Enlighten me, or face the consequences.”
“You have no power over me, Strahd. My death has already come, it will be foretold. And neither has to do with you and all your strength.”
“Even so: your people are not you Eva. They can come to harm.”
“I do not think my lord would be pleased to try. There was already a recent transgression of our pact.”
“A mistake, and addressed. Do not try to turn the wolf to new prey, Eva. We talk of your aid to the outsiders. I know your people well by this point. I know how important the freedom of the road is to you. So be it then: the borders of Barovia are closed. To all, even to the Vistani. And your troupe is bound to this site. If I see any leave, I will consider that a notice of fair game for my children.”
Eva's milky white eyes stare back as her thin lips tighten grimly but without words.
Strahd fades back into the darkness around the fire, backwards, as if he were floating not walking. Around him in the darkness, as he darkens into nothing but horrible hungry red eyes in the darkness, the eyes of his "children" glow in the dark about him.
“Do not defy me Eva. I will know what you told them.”
